Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated Friendship Sunday August 8, 2010. Leading us in worship was JOYFUL SOUND, Brenda Duncan and Diane Hickman from Paris, Missouri. The congregation extended a warm welcome to F.R.A.N’s (Friends, Relatives, Associates and Neighbors). Approximately 70 people attended the dinner after the service.

2010 Bible School

Heroes of the Bible was the theme for the 2010 Cooperative Methodist and Christian church Summer Bible School. Brenda Masters was coordinator and Cheryl Hays provided music instruction and put on a well attended Program for parents and guests Friday night. Approximately forty-four children from several denominations attended. Money collected at Bible School will go to the Monroe City Food Pantry.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church met on Sunday, August 29, 2010 Rally Day and 144th Anniversary Celebration. Rally Day is a celebration of the Sunday School program. Cheryl Hays with helpers Brenda Masters and JoAnn Woodall presented Sunday School classes with gifts and recognized their teachers. Early childhood is taught by Cindy Foster, Middle School by J.R. Beck, Love class is led by Reba Utterback, Baby Boomers led by Brenda Masters and Victory class by Mary Hills. After services everyone enjoyed a beautiful cake made by Mary Hills for the celebration.

Clayton Shaves

Well...I found them. I thought the pictures were lost but guess what...In 2009 Clayton challenged the church. He said he would shave his beard if we paid 50% of our apportionments and would shave his beard and head if we met 100%. Well, we didn't make the 100% but...Clayton was good to his word and on January 28, 2010 shaved his beard. He went to Mary's Beauty Shop to have the deed done and there were several well wishers to get in on the fun. Lots of laughs and Clayton was a good sport.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church met on Sunday, July 11, 2010 Seventh Sunday after Pentecost. The Nicaraguan Mission Team from the Arch Methodist Church in Hannibal; Mary Hudelson, April Fohey, Hazel Silvey, Megan and Valerie Munzlinger brought the very important message of the Rainbow Network. Rainbow Network specializes in the long-term development of impoverished communities. Its mission is to share in the love of Jesus Christ with Nicaragua’s poorest people by partnering with them in healthcare, education, economic development, and housing. They shared with the congregation the mission work they have undertaken for LaCommunidad del Paraiso. (Community of Paradise). Fourth of July Parade

The MCUMC participated in Monroe City's annual Fourth of July parade. Those riding the float were Rev. Clayton Peak, Phyllis and Cindy Foster, Zach and Tiffany Neff, Dianne Manney, Barbara Smith and Laneta Gares. The riders sang songs as Rev. Peak played his banjo and the kids threw candy for the crowd. What fun!

The Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated Second Sunday of Easter Sunday April 11, 2010. Called Holy Humor Sunday the sermon was “Knock, Knock? God Calls us to be Joyful”.
Michael Greening a member of the MCUMC serves with the US Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 367 stationed in Afghanistan. Mark and Mitchell Greening , father and brother of Michael, presented the church with a flag and a certificate indicating that the flag was flown on Christmas Day 2009 in honor of the Monroe City United Methodist Church.

Easter Egg Hunt

The children of the church and their invited guests (the parents) enjoyed the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Some of the eggs were boiled eggs colored by the kids during LOGOS. Others were plastic eggs filled with ‘surprises. I think the kids had fun and it was even more fun to watch. The parents and grandparents had as much fun as the kids.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated Palm/Passion Sunday March 28, 2010. The LOGO’s children performed the Skit “Jesus’ Last Week on Earth” written by Clayton Peak. Scripture was taken from the Psalm 118: 1-4, 19-29 and from Phillippians 2: 5-11. “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” was sung as the children circled the church with the palm branches. The Children’s Bell Choir rang “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art”.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church held services on December 20, 2009. The Fourth Sunday of Advent was celebrated with the lighting of the Advent Candles by Sandy and Shelby Davis as the congregation sang the fourth verse of the Advent Song "Light the Advent Candle". Scripture for this Sunday was taken from Luke 2:1-20.

During Children's Sermon the children talked about the Nativity, why Jesus was not in the manger and searched for the Wise Men as they traveled to Bethlehem. The Children put on their Christmas Skit. Directed by Brenda Masters, helped by Paula Gamble and accompanied by Joyce Adams the children performed the story of the Nativity, rang the bells and sang songs. meredith Masters played an Act of Praise on the piano and Nicholas Schnerre sang "Winter Wonderland." The adult Choir sang "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore You." Songs used int hes ervice were "The First Noel" and "Hark" The Herald Angels Sing".

Third Sunday in Advent

The Monroe City United Methodist Church held services December 13, 2009. The Third Sunday of Advent was celebrated with the lighting of the Advent Candles by the Freidank family: Darren, Robin, Derek and Emily. The congregation sang the third verse of the Advent Song “Light the Advent Candle. The sermon was “What if…” Scripture was taken from Luke 1:26-38. We also shared in Holy Communion.
During Children’s Time the children are learning about the symbols of Christmas and this week about the Poinsettia.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church held services December 6, 2009. The Second Sunday of Advent was celebrated with the lighting of the Joy Advent Candle by Jessica and Nick Schnerre with the congregation singing the second verse of “Light the Advent Candle”. The sermon was “Along the Road of Discipleship”. Scripture was taken from Luke 3:1-6 read from the “Living Out Your Life” Bible. During Children’s Time the children were told of another way of keeping time with the lighting of the Advent Candles.

We celebrated the confirmation of Mitchell Greening into the church family and Star Goff and Dawn Shoemaker were welcomed into the membership.

First Sunday in Advent Nov. 29, 2009

The Monroe City United Methodist Church held services November 29, 2008. The first Sunday of Advent was celebrated with the lighting of the Hope Advent Candle by Laneta Gares, Joyce Adams, Shayla Roop and Ashley Adams with the congregation singing the first verse of “ Light the Advent Candle”. The sermon was “The Days Are Surely Coming”. Scripture was taken from Jeremiah 34:14-18 with the Psalter from Psalm 25:1-10.

The Monroe City United Methodist Women had the Mission Minutes Candle Burning Ceremony as celebration of raising monies for missions. This year it cost $31.14 a minute to keep missionaries in the field. Members of the congregation donated monies in Memory of or in Honor of loved ones. The list of names were read as the candle was lit. UMW was able to burn the Mission Minute candle for 19 minutes and 43 seconds. The UMW would like to thank everyone who contributed.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated the Missions of the United Methodist Women on September 27, 2009. Service was led by the United Methodist Women president Tammie Welch. The guest speaker was Rep. Rachel Bringer, who gave an inspirational message about the women in her life. Gene Copenhaver and Jeanne Cheek were honored by the UMW with a Special Mission Recognition Pin for their contributions to the missions of the church.
Songs used in the service were Song of Praise “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing”, Song of Invitation “Hymn of Promise” and Benediction Response “Bind Us Together, Lord.”

The Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated Holy Humor Sunday. “A merry heart is a good medicine, but a downcast spirit dries up the bones.” Proverbs 17:22.
The Second Sunday of Easter April 19, 2009 Rev. Peak sermon was “Monster, Inc.”, the moral of the story is laughter is much more powerful than screams of fear. The Children’s Time topic was “Laughter is a Very Good Thing, reading from Ecclesiastes 3.
The Scriptures used in the service were taken from Genesis 21:1-6 and from the Gospel of St. John 20:19-31. The service began with Songs of Joy. The Choir sang “Come Share with the Lord” as we prepared to celebrate Holy Communion. The Song of Invitation was “I’ve Got Peace Like A River” with benediction reponse “Bind Us Together, Lord.”
Serving in the ministry this morning was Pianist Bonnie Berry. Ushers Hilbert and Laneta Gares. Greeters were Tony Ketsenburg and Sheryl Hays. Acolyte was Tony Ketsenburg.

The Monroe City United Methodist Church celebrated Palm/Passion Sunday April 5, 2009 with a special program. The children of the church did a skit “The Triumphal Entry” written by Bob Snook. Adult Choir helped them sing “Hosanna”. During the Processional Song “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna” the children led by Rev. Peak circled the sanctuary waving palm leaves. Scripture was taken from Mark 1:1-11 and Rev. Peak retold the Passion Story using Mark 14-15. The Children’s Bell Choir rang “In the Garden”, “Were You There” and the “Old Rugged Cross”.
Processional Song was “Hosanna, Loud Hosanna”, Song of Response “Tell Me the Stories of Jesus and Song of Invitation was “The Old Rugged Cross”. Choral response to the Benediction was “Bind Us Together, Lord”.
Those serving in the ministry Sunday morning were Organist Joyce Adams, Ushers Sara O’Bryan and Pat Potterfield. Greeters were Carl and Linda Schafer. Acolyte was Valerie Lowe.

Thanks to the hearty group of folks who took part in the Christmas Parade on such a cold day. A special thanks to J.R. Beck for using his pickup and to JoAnn Woodall for painting the signs. On each side of the pick up was a sign saying "Jesus is the reason for the Season" and on the back was the United Methodist Church Sign. Others taking part were Rev. November: The Thanksgiving Month

I have a new nickname for the month of November—“The Thanksgiving Month.” November is The Thanksgiving Month not only because our national Thanksgiving holiday is held every year on the fourth Thursday of November. Throughout the month of November, we have several occasions which give us pause to say “Thanks.”

November 1 is “All Saints Day.” For many centuries, Christians around the world have taken time on November 1, or the first Sunday in November, to remember the saints of God who have gone on before us. Although we remember “official” saints like St. Peter, St. Paul, and St. Mary, we also recognize that anyone who has faith in Christ is a saint. As we remember the saints, we give thanks to God for the wonderful legacy that the saints have left to us. All Christians owe a debt of gratitude to saints who shared their faith with us, taught and nurtured us so that we might become disciples of Jesus Christ.

November 4 is Election Day, and it too is a day for giving thanks. Since 1789—that’s 219 years now—Americans have had the privilege of electing their president, members of congress, and other legislators. Voting also gives us the opportunity to participate government as we vote on ordinances, propositions, state constitutional amendments and other ballot issues. More than a civic duty, voting is indeed a privilege for which we should be thankful. Many people in other parts of the world still do not have the same opportunity to have a say in their government like we do.

November 11 is Veterans Day. The armistice ending World War I was signed at 11:11 a.m. on November 11, 1918. The following year, President Wilson designated November 11 as “Armistice Day” to remember all who had died in the war. In the 1950’s, “Armistice Day” was changed to “Veterans Day” and the focus was broadened to include American veterans of all wars. On Veterans Day we give thanks for all of the men and women who sacrificed their own self interests to serve their country. We remember with thanksgiving all who fought and died to defend the freedoms, civil rights, and privileges we enjoy as Americans.

That brings us to Thanksgiving Day which this year is on November 27. The first American Thanksgiving was held in November 1621. The Pilgrims had a rough time after they established Plymouth Colony in 1620. During their first year in the New World, more than half of their numbers died due to disease and malnutrition. After a bountiful harvest in the fall of 1621, the Pilgrims set aside three days to give God thanks for seeing them through their first tumultuous year. In the years that followed a variety of thanksgiving celebrations were held until Abraham Lincoln made Thanksgiving Day a national holiday in 1863. These days we celebrate thanksgiving with special church services, parades, football games, family gatherings and—best of all—FOOD! We gather with our family and friends around the dinner table to give God thanks for the many blessings we have received. As they give thanks for their own blessings, many people take the opportunity to share blessings with people in need, so that they may give thanks also.

There are other special November days I could mention, like Christ the King Sunday and my Dad’s birthday, but I think you get the idea. November is a month for giving thanks. We give thanks to God for our faith, our church, our country, our family, and our friends. We give thanks to God not only for the blessings we have received, but for the opportunities we have to be a blessing to others. So I encourage you to join me in celebrating November as “The Thanksgiving Month.” Thank you and spread the word!

UMW Invitational Dinner

The Annual UMW Invitational Dinner was held on August 13th at 6pm in the Fellowship Hall of the church. The Hostesses for the carry-in were Phyllis Foster and Cindy Foster. We were happy to have guests from Shelbina, Mt. Olivet, Hannibal and Mt. Vernon join us, including five of our District Officers.

Following the supper, the program was presented by Debbie Tanzey. Everyone was given a paper and pencil to take a test on our memories on TV programs from 20 years ago. We found we each had some faulty memories!! :-)

Afterwards, Debbie told about the District meetings and encouraged each one to use their talents in ways to work with the local UMW unit and the UMW District.

The next meeting will be on September 10th at 6p.m. with Laneta Gares as Program Leader on Pledges, Barbara Smith as Hostess, and Linda Schafer as Hospitality Chair.

The House of Faith

As I sit down to write this column, it has been four weeks since my wife Rebecca and I moved to Hannibal. Four weeks—just about a month. In one sense four weeks is not a long period of time. At the same time, however, I am amazed at all that has taken place during these last four weeks.

Many people have asked, with a smile, “So, have you gotten all of your boxes unpacked?” I smile back and say, “Not yet.” And I expect the answer will be “not yet” for at least a few more months. It’s one thing to unpack a box; it’s another thing to find places for the stuff that was inside that box. Every house is built and set-up differently. So what may have fit in the living room closet of our old house might not fit there in our new house. Now don’t get me wrong. Rebecca and I like our new house. It’s just going to take time to for us to figure out how to get things arranged and put away to our liking.

John Wesley, one of the founders of Methodism, often compared the Christian life to a house. The porch of the house is where we first encounter God’s grace. God’s grace reaches out to us, even before we can do a thing. Even before we can lift a finger to indicate that we might be interested in knowing God, God comes to us first, reaching out in love to break through our sinful nature. God enters our lives to offer us salvation through God’s son Jesus Christ. If God didn’t come to us first, we might say, “I found God,” and then gives ourselves a big pat on the back. Instead, it’s just the reverse—God finds us, and God gets all of the credit.

After we meet God on the porch, then it’s time to enter the house. For Wesley, the doorway of our life is where we become a Christian. We confess our sins and accept God’s free gift of grace. We invite Jesus into our heart to be our Lord and Savior. As we respond to God’s grace, God washes us clean from all of our sins. We are born again to new life, and become children of God. All of this takes place as we step into the doorway of our life’s house.

What joy we experience as we encounter God’s saving grace at the doorway. But we can’t stay at the doorway our entire lives. Our next step is to enter the house. For Wesley, the inside of the house represents the rest (and, if we live long enough, the majority) of our Christian lives here on earth. As we move in and get settled into this house, we encounter God’s grace once again. This time God’s grace works in our lives to change us and rearrange us so that we become more and more like Christ. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, God transforms us so that our wills and desires become God’s wills and desires. Following Christ goes from being a duty to a delight because God’s grace draws us ever closer to Christ and ever closer to one another.

The Christian faith is a lifelong journey through God’s grace. Although we may have special encounters with Christ along the way (e.g., in worship, on a mission trip, during a Walk to Emmaus weekend), our growth in God’s grace is a continual process. There may be times when we stumble and fall. We may even backtrack a bit, or stray from the path. Yet even when lose our way, God’s grace is still there. Like a shepherd who goes searching for a lost sheep, Christ comes looking for us, always willing to take us back home.

Let’s all take some time to look around the house—the house of our Christian lives. Do we have boxes to unpack? Do we need to throw some junk away? Do we need to get new appliances or fixtures? Do we need to rearrange the furniture? Do we need to make some repairs, improvements, or additions?

This summer is a good time to do some “house work.” I invite you to join me as we journey together through God’s grace to become more and more like Christ.

2008 Vacation Bible School a Success!!!

The Monroe City Christian and United Methodist Churches held Vacation Bible School jointly July 20-24 with a program on Friday night July 25th. This year it was held at the Methodist Church from 5:30-7:30. Each day the Church was filled with happy faces, happy voices, and happy songs of the children and helpers.

Brenda Masters was the Director. Each day opening and closing times brought skits performed by Trey Gander, Shelley Buckman and Flamé the pink flamingo about ‘Surfin' at the Beach’ and ‘Surfin' through the Scriptures.’ Rev. Clayton Peak was the Music leader, accompanied with his guitar, Ukulele, or banjo. Gigi Lehenbaurer and JoAnn Woodall provided the Bible Stories.

These pictures were taken showing different activities on Wednesday. You can see how busy everyone is from the opening, through story time, to supper all the way through craft time. It was hard to wait until Craft time to see what the project of the day would be. You can see on Wednesday it was bring and paint a tee shirt and the tables are full of drying painted shirts. Supper was another favorite time.

Recently I began embarking on a new adventure--Podcasting! So far I am just experimenting around. In the future, I would like to record devotions, sermons, songs, etc. that could be posted at this site for people to listen to and/or download. But that's still aways off. This picture was taken on October 31, 2007 at the Monroe City Manor Care Center. Standing with the walker is Raymond Nichols. Seated next to him is our pastor, Rev. Clayton Peak. As you can see, Rev. Peak is wearing his usual attire--bowler hat, suspenders and bow tie--just like he does on Sunday Morning! LOL!

Don't Give Up the Ship

Clayton gives the Children's Sermon ~ May 20th

During the Children's Sermon, Clayton gave a comparison of the three steps of a NASA rocket: 1) Take off 2) Mission and 3) Return to Ascension Sunday. These are similar to the steps Jesus has and will take. First He has Take off when he ascended into Heaven, now He has the Mission of feeling us with the Holy Spirit, and some day he will Return.

This is the stained glass window Mona Jarman recently made for Bethlehem Baptist Church, Centralia. It was recently installed

She has been doing stained glass since 1999. In 2005 she made one for the church, which was 69" wide & 29" tall. This one is 77" wide & 13" tall. They were so pleased with the first one and asked her to make four more for the sanctuary in memory of a lady in the church who passed away, as a memorial to her by her children.
She loves doing this craft, and wishes she had gotten started a lot sooner.

Aren't we blessed to have such a talented member in our congregation?!?!?

Lenten Devotional

During November and December 2006, the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church posted a series of Advent Podcasts at the Conference web site. The podcasts were 2-3 minute recorded devotions by both clergy and laity in Missouri.

Because the Advent Podcasts were so successful, the Missouri Conference decided to do the same during Lent 2007. Clergy and laity were asked once again to submit 2-3 minute recorded devotions pertaining to the season of Lent. And so I recorded a Lenten podcast which has recently been posted at the Conference web site. I invite all of you to listen to it. Mine is the one for March 19. The podcast is available for both high speed (e.g., DSL, cable) and low speed (e.g., dial-up) connections. Your computer will need Windows Media Player or a similar type program to play the podcast.

My Attorney

After living what I felt was a "decent" life, my time on earth came to the end. The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a courthouse. The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.

As I looked around I saw the "prosecutor." He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen. I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney, a kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me, I felt I knew Him.

The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room I couldn't take my eyes off of Him. As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, "Let us begin."

The prosecutor rose and said, "My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell." He proceeded to tell of lies I told, things I stole, and in the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horrible perversions once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank. I was so embarrassed, I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins even I completely forgotten about. As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all. I know I was guilty of those things, but I did some good in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done?

Satan finished with a fury and said, "This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise."

When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward. As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty. I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior.

He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, "Hi, Dad," then He turned to address the court. "Satan was correct in saying this man sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wage of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished."

Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, "However, I died on the cross so this person might have eternal life and he accepted Me as his Savior, so he is Mine."

My Lord continued with, "His name is written in the Book of Life and no one can snatch him from Me. Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy."

As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said,"There is nothing else that needs to be done. I've done it all."

The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips... "This man is free The penalty for him was already paid in full. Case dismissed"

As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, "I won't give up, I will win the next one."

I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, "Have you ever lost a case?" Christ lovingly smiled and said, "Everyone that comes to Me and asked Me to represent them, received the same verdict as you, "PAID IN FULL."

Satan's Meeting

Satan called a worldwide convention of demons.

In his opening address he said, "We can't keep Christians from going to church. We can't keep them from reading their Bibles and knowing the truth. We can't even keep them from forming an intimate relationship with their Savior. Once they gain that connection with Jesus, our power over them is broken."

"So let them go to their churches; let them have their covered dish dinners, BUT steal their time, so they don't have time to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ."

"This is what I want you to do," said the devil: "Distract them from gaining hold of their Savior and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!"

"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted.

"Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered.

"Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow."

"Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles."

"Keep them from spending time with their children."

"As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"

"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice."

"Entice them to play the radio or cassette player whenever they drive. To keep the TV, VCR, CDs and their PCs going constantly in their home and see to it that every store and restaurant in the world plays non-biblical music constantly. This will jam their minds and break that union with Christ."

"Fill the coffee tables with magazines and newspapers. Pound their minds with the news 24 hours a day. Invade their driving moments with billboards. Flood their mailboxes with junk mail, mail order catalogs, sweepstakes, and every kind of newsletter and promotional offering free products, services and false hopes..."

"Keep skinny, beautiful models on the magazines and TV so their husbands will believe that outward beauty is what's important, and they'll become dissatisfied with their wives. Keep the wives too tired to love their husbands at night. If they don't give their husbands the love they need, they will begin to look elsewhere. That will fragment their families quickly!"

"Give them Santa Claus to distract them from teaching their children the real meaning of Christmas. Give them an Easter bunny so they won't talk about his resurrection and power over sin and death. Even in their recreation, let them be excessive.

Have them return from their recreation exhausted. Keep them too busy to go out in nature and reflect on God's creation. Send them to amusement parks, sporting events, plays, concerts, and movies instead."

"Keep them busy, busy, busy!"

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences."

"Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Jesus. Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause."

"It will work! It will work!"

It was quite a plan! The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Christians everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there. Having little time for their God or their families. Having no time to tell others about the power of Jesus to change lives.

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?
You be the judge!!!!! Does "BUSY" mean: B-eing U-nder S-atan's Y-oke?

3:15-4:30 p.m. - LOGOS, an after school program for elementary age children. Each week we have snacks, singing, a Bible lesson, and crafts.
6:30-8:00 p.m. - DMX, youth group for all youth grades 6-12. Each week we play games, have a Bible study, sing songs, and close with a special candlelight prayer time.

Sunday, March 8
11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. - Soup Luncheon served by the United Methodist Women. There will be a variety a soups, sandwiches, desserts, and drinks. Freewill donations accepted.

A day without laughter is a day wasted!!!

A woman was flying from Seattle to San Francisco. Unexpectedly, the plane was diverted to Sacramento along the way. The flight attendant explained that there would be a delay, and if the passengers wanted to get off the aircraft the plane would re-board in 50 minutes.

Everybody got off the plane except one lady who was blind. A man had noticed her as he walked by and could tell the lady was blind because her Seeing Eye dog lay quietly underneath the seats in front of her throughout the entire flight.

He could also tell she had flown this very flight before because the pilot approached her, and calling her by name, said, "Kathy, we are in Sacramento for almost an hour. Would you like to get off and stretch your legs?" The blind lady replied, "No thanks, but maybe my dog would like to stretch his legs."

All the people in the gate area came to a complete standstill when they looked up and saw the pilot walk off the plane with a Seeing Eye dog! He was also wearing sunglasses.

People scattered. They not only tried to change planes, but they were trying to change airlines!
